ASPSA Tutor — MATH 110, DATA 110, COMP 110

Academic tutor for the Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes, Spring 2026. Taught over 40 students across three introductory courses.

Instructor: UNC Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes

Term: Spring

Location: UNC Chapel Hill

Role: Tutor, Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes (ASPSA) · Spring 2026

I tutored for ASPSA at UNC Chapel Hill in Spring 2026, working with over 40 students across three subjects. The three courses sit at the entry point of the math, data science, and computer science sequences, so most of the work was helping students build a first working mental model of a subject rather than patching a specific gap.

MATH 110 · Algebra

A one-semester review of the basics of algebra, covering basic algebraic expressions, functions, exponents, and logarithms, with an emphasis on problem solving. It is intended for students who need it as a prerequisite for other classes.

DATA 110 · Introduction to Data Science

A broad, high-level survey of the major aspects of data science, including ethics, best practices in communication such as data visualization, mathematical and statistical concepts, and computational thinking. It builds the foundational understanding that supports the advanced coursework required for the data science major.

COMP 110 · Introduction to Programming

An introduction to programming from a computational perspective, emphasizing modern applications in society. Students gain experience with problem decomposition, algorithms for data analysis, abstraction design, and ethics in computing. No prior programming experience is expected; the course covers data types, sequences, boolean logic, control flow, functions, recursion, classes and objects, input/output, and data transformations.
